Disney World Weather in December!

The Most Miserly Mom is happy to report that the temperature reached about 80 degrees today! For anyone visiting Disney World from the Great White North it is downright balmy down here in Orlando!

While there is some humidity in the air, I think that most people visiting Disney World or Universal Studios or Sea World are happy to have warm weather.

This weather fluxuates in January -- The high temperatures can range from 50's to 80's -- but most of the time we have nice 70 degree temperatures for visiting the theme parks in January. It is a great season for good weather, a great season for good prices, and a great season for good crowd control!

Mardi Gras at Universal Studios - Plan Ahead!

The Most Miserly Mom knows how much fun Mardi Gras can be - especially combined with Unviersal Studios!

Universal Studios has what they call "Mardi Gras nights" on Saturdays between February 3rd and April 14th. On these nights they have awesome concerts and Mardi Gras fesitivities.

This year Donna Summer will be there - one of The Most Miserly Mom's favorites! The Doobie Brothers, The Temptations, The Four Tops, and many more concerts will entertain the crowds at Universal Studios as well.

For more information on Universal Studios and Mardi Gras nights go to:

Disney World Closes Because of Crowds!

The Most Miserly Mom read this morning that both Disney's Magic Kingdom and Disney's Animal Kingdom closed early yesterday because the parks reached crowd capacity!

The parks closed at 1:15pm because of the Holiday crowds, but both parks re-opened by 3:00pm for Disney fans.

The Most Miserly Mom knows how crowded this time of year is at Disney -- It is the most crowded and the most expensive time to visit Disney World.

To save money, and still enjoy the Holiday ambiance, try visiting Disney in early December. You can save lots of $$$ on hotels during this time and enjoy shorter lines.

Universal Studios Banning the Fat!

The Most Miserly Mom read today that Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure have moved towards banning trans fat in their theme park food. As of last week more than 90% of the foods they sold were cooked in trans fat-free oil.

The Most Miserly Mom thinks that is great for our kids, don't you? With the amount of snacks and treats we consume, a little help here and there helps out our health.

For all the dining tips you need at Universal Studios or at Disney's Magic Kingdom, Epcot, MGM Studios or Animal Kingdom, check out my book:

Christmas Memories of Disney!

The Most Miserly Mom visited Disney World on December 22nd with a group of friends to enjoy the Christmas decorations and the Holiday Spirit.

It was a wonderful evening. The Grand Floridian was as beautiful as ever, with carolers in the atrium around the gigantic Christmas tree. The lights glittered and so did children's eyes as they viewed the glorious decorations.

I always find Disney World magical, but this time of year it is especially so - the ambiance creates Christmas memories that stay with me forever.

Disney World Hotel Hopping at the Holidays!

The Most Miserly Mom is going to Disney World today - but not for the rides or the attractions!
I am going to the parks today to enjoy the Christmas decorations and the feel of the Holiday spirit.

Every year a group of my friends and I visit Disney World around December 23rd and "hotel hop." We visit the Grand Floridian and the Wilderness Lodge and enjoy the music, the Christmas carols, the festive atmosphere, and our friendship of course. We always look forward to the lifesize gingerbread house at the Grand Floridian and the huge tree in the entrance way.

We always end up at the Contemporary Hotel for the incredible view of the fireworks display at night!

It truly is a festive, magical night at Disney World!

Happy Holidays from the Most Miserly Mom!

Sea World Tickets for Christmas!

The Most Miserly Mom loves the theme parks so much, that I give theme park tickets for Christmas!

I just purchased Sea World "fun cards" for my father and my step-mother for their Christmas gifts this year. I cannot wait to see how happy they will be when they receive their Sea World tickets! They just love the dolphins and the seals and simply walking around the grounds of this beautiful theme park. And what's more - I bought them the "fun cards" so they can go all year!

Sea World offers an awesome deal on these fun cards. The price is only $64 plus tax (the cost of a one day admission) and they can actually visit Sea World alll year long.
They will love this gift so much.

Okay....Back to shopping.

Walt Disney World Christmas Parade!

The Most Miserly Mom loves a parade! Who doesn't? But the Walt Disney Christmas Parade is extra special!

This year's parade will start off with an opening show performed by four "American Idol" contestants!

Michael Bolton will sing "Joy to the World" as the finale.

And of course there will be tons of floats and princesses and "mice" of course! :-)

There will also be a special "Pirate Section" thanks to "Pirates of the Caribbean."

All in all, Disney will have a Spectacular Christmas Parade. The Most Miserly Mom Can't Wait!

Disney World Hotel Discount Codes!

The Most Miserly Mom loves it when Disney World has discounts at their resorts!

Right now Disney is offering rates as low as $64 for Florida residents at their Value resort properties such as the All Star Sports and All Star Music Resorts.

The rates are offered through the end of January and the beginning of February. They are based on availability, and the discount code that must be used is BRL.

If you are not a Florida Resident, there should still be a discounted rate for you -- Just mention that code when you call anyway! The number to call is 407.939.7801.

New Year's Eve at Disney's Pleasure Island!

The Most Miserly Mom loves to dance the night away at Disney's Pleasure Island - And what better night to do this than on New Year's Eve, right?

On New Year's Eve you will pay one price ($89) and enjoy all of the Disney dance clubs at Pleasure Island. There is a Latin dance club, a hip-hop club, a techno club, and of course my favorite - the 70's and 80's club! Not only can you dance and enjoy music in the clubs, but there will be bands and d.j.s in the streets - music is everywhere.

There are two comedy clubs as well for your laughing enjoyment.

Fireworks, a champagne toast, and snacks all night long are included. It is a rockin' great time.

For more information about Pleasure Island you can find it in my book! You can also check out Disney's site:

The Most Miserly Mom recommends you visit Universal Studios City Walk on New Year's Eve!

Cyndi Lauper will be performing, and she is awesome! I have seen her perform at City Walk before, and her voice resonates through the streets of Universal.

The party begins at 8pm and runs until 2am. The cost is $109.00 and includes all you can eat gourmet food like filet mignon, jumbo shrim, desserts and more!

A champagne toast is included as well and Universal puts on an amazing fireworks display.

Santa Kicked out of Disney World?

The Most Miserly Mom read an article this morning about a man that looked like Santa Claus being kicked out of Disney World!

The reason the article gave for Santa being kicked out was that Disney didn't approve of this "character."

The last time I went to Epcot I saw a Santa look-alike who had a plethora of pins attached to his Disney attire. I wonder if it was him?

Holiday Travel Tips at Disney World!

The Most Miserly Mom knows that millions of people are traveling during the Christmas Holiday Season, and many of those wll be coming to sunny Florida to visit Orlando, Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World, and the beaches.

While I have thousands of travel & money saving tips in my book, I want to remind you of some travel tips to help you in the next few days.

1. If you are driving to Florida, allow extra time. Be sure to allow extra time for unexpected traffic or other factors beyond your control that could reduce your average travel speed, such as road work or poor weather conditions.

2. If at all possible leave earlier than most people and stay later as well. Avoid traveling during peak traffic times. Remember that even in the Disney/Orlando area there will be last minute shoppers on the road, evening rush hour and Floridians leaving here to visit relatives elsewhere! The roads will be packed. Try not to be on the highways here between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

3. Did you know that AAA has a Fuel Price Finder? Just go to http://www.aaa.com/ to find the cheapest gas for your road trip or for the cheapest gas once you arrive in the Orlando area.

4. Always arrive early at the airports, always check your flights for delays, and try to carry on luggage if you can instead of checking it.

5. Use an online check in service if you can. You can get boarding passes and everything on many airlines these days, and not even have to stop at the ticketing counter at all!.

6. Log onto www.tsa.gov for the latest information concerning prohibited carry-on items. Recently I forgot about this, and I ended up throwing away perfume, make-up, deodorant, etc. That can be costly, and This Miserly Mom does not like that!

7. If you are traveling with your children or even for yourself, bring snacks, bring games, bring books, and most of all bring a sense of humor and your patience. It is Christmas after all!

Happy Holidays from The Most Miserly Mom!

Cypress Gardens, An Old - Fashioned Christmas!

The Most Miserly Mom knows that it is no suprise that the oldest theme park in Florida, Cypress Gardens, offers a spectacularly quaint "Old -Fashioned Christmas Show."

After you and your family meander through Disney World, Universal Studios, & Sea World, take a short hike to Cypess Gardens to feel the 0ld-fashioned flavor.

Cypress Gardens entertains with a live Nativity show, Christmas carols, culinary delights, and much much more.

The prices are reasonable, and the scenery is majestic.

Last Minute Christmas Shopping at Disney World?

The Most Miserly Mom knows that the most festive place for Holiday shopping is at Disney World! Who can resist all the trinkets and treasures and glorious treats within the gates of the Magic Kingdom?

No one enjoys the shops at Disney World more than The Most Miserly Mom! I love Mickeys and Minnies and especially Tinker Bells and tshirts and crystal and baubels and gadgets and especially delectible desserts! I am Miserly, however, so I must search for the bargains!

If you are wandering through the various gift shops of Epcot or MGM studios or The Magic Kingdom this Holiday Weekend, make sure you find the bargain stores. Each park has a store that offers items for $10 or less! There you can find those special Disney items at a discount and still enjoy your Disney shopping.

Money at Disney World?

The Most Miserly Mom knows how it is to travel on a budget! After all, my book is all about traveling to Disney World, Universal STudios, Sea World, and Orlando in a miserly fashion! Should you carry cash with you while visiting Disney World? The Most Miserly Mom suggest using a Disney Gift Card while meandering through Disney's theme parks. Whether you are browsing through gift shops at Disney Village Market Place or sauntering down Main Street in The Magic Kingdom, the Disney Gift Card will help expedite any purchases you make. All you need to do is go in to any Disney gift shop and use cash or your credit card to purchase the gift card. After this you can just get your card quickly swiped and move on to your next Disney destination! It is really quite handy! There are ATM's in the Disney Parks, however. In Disney's Magic Kingdom there are three: under the Main Street train station, near the Frontierland Shooting Arcade, and at the Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. arcade near Space Mountain®. You can exchange most foreign currency at City Hall.

Downtown Orlando Hotels for the Citrus Bowl?

The Most Miserly Mom writes plenty about accommodations at and around Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World and Orlando. I write about motels, hotels, condominiums, time shares, camping and anything you would consider for accommodations on your Disney World vacation in my book.

If you are visiting Orlando for a reason other than Disney World, however, you might want to stay in our downtown area. If you visit for a football game this winter at the Citrus Bowl, then downtown Orlando will be great for you.

Our downtown is quite beautiful, with lakes and swan boats and trees and historic sights.

Orlando & Disney Shopping!

The Most Miserly Mom knows how much fun it is to shop at Disney World - In the Magic Kingdom or the shops at Epcot or especially at The Disney Marketplace.

In my travels I meet many people from the United Kingdom who shop here for the big value too!

The exhange rate right now is @ $2 to the pound, so the British tourists are here getting great deals at Disney, Epcot, and all of our fabulous malls in Orlando.

We can get great deals ourselves at The Disney Store in The Florida Mall, or at The value store (everything under $10) at Disney Marketplace and Epcot, or at the awesome "Everything is $1.99 or less" on International Drive.

Disney's Epcot & Christmas & Illuminations!

The Most Miserly Mom visited Disney's Epcot last night and boy was it chilly for us here in Orlando! It was in the 40's last night and it was brisk and breezy at Epcot!

I had a great time, however, the mulled wine in Germany (in Epcot's World Showcase) kept me warm. So did all of the other treats from the "Holiday Cheers" booths. There was stew and stroganoff and cookies and chocolates and oh so many treats to choose from! It was wonderful as only Disney & Epcot can be.

Illuminations lit up the night with Epcot's famous fireworks display. The show ended with a Christmas tune to keep the crowds in the holiday spirit while exiting Epcot.

Here's a Miserly Mom Tip: The Most Miserly Mom always parks for free at Disney's Boardwalk area and walks through the Boardwalk to Epcot! Free Parking at Disney is always a plus!

Disney/Star Wars Toys for Christmas!

The Most Miserly Mom has often commented on how much I love Disney's "Once Upon A Toy STore," located in Downtown Disney. The store fascinates me with the toys of old intermingled with the toys of today.

Mr. Potato Head, Tinker Toys, and Buzz Light Year are all together - And yes - Star Wars toys too! And now Star Wars has a new toy - "Build Your Own Lightsaber" - which is only sold at Disney's "Once Upon A Toy Store" at Downtown Disney.

Visiting Orlando, Disney, and Kennedy Space Center?

The Most Miserly Mom knows that what most people have on their minds when they visit Orlando is heading to Disney World or Universal Studios!

And I also realized that something is happening tonight that I may have taken for granted in the past: A Space Shuttle Launch!
This is one time that The Most Miserly Mom says, "Move over Disney - if only for a few minutes!"

Even if you are ensconsed in the magic of Disney, the magic of a night space shuttle launch will blow your socks off! The entire night sky lights up, the ground shakes, and you can hear the rumble. It's as if Space and Reality intermingle.

The Most Miserly Mom highly recommends sharing a night shuttle launch with your children if you are visiting Florida!

Disney's Nemo & Friends at Epcot

The Most Miserly Mom enjoyed The Seas with Nemo & Friends at Disney's Epcot recently.

This ride is excellent for your little ones and for anyone who loves Nemo for that matter! Disney recently opened this ride at Epcot and I was pleasantly surprised. Guests join a search for Nemo in Disney fashion - while riding in a clam!

Music and mobiles surround you as you "ride" through Nemo's world with all of his friends lilke Dory and Marlin.

You'll be humming "Big Blue World" as you exit Disney's Nemo & Friends ride, you can be sure!

Downtown Disney Tips

The Most Miserly Mom loves to give Disney tips and loves to receive Disney tips.

Every day I look for new Disney information at the theme parks through my own personal visits, or I scour web sites, trek through downtown Orlando, talk to Disney professionals, and anything else I can do to get up-to-date Disney information.

Did you know that there is a phone number you can call to get up-to-the-minute information about what's going on at Downtown Disney? You can find out about concerts, events, specialty merchandise, and anything else you might need to know.

The number is 407.WDW.Tonite. Press 1 for concerts and special events, 2 for merchandise, 3 for dining, and 4 for entertainment. It's that easy!

Walt Disney Pirate Nights!

The Most Miserly Mom knows adventure when I see it! Walt Disney World knows that the pirate inside all of us would love a special adventure right at Disney's Magic Kingdom.

So here's the scoop:

Disney actually has a special "Pirate & Princess Party." Just like Disney's other special events like Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party and Mickey's Not-so-Scary-Halloween Party, Disney sets specific dates aside for these pirate parties, and the parties require separate tickets (which are less expensive when purchased in advance!)

Dressed as pirates and princesses, you and your children can search for Disney treasure and enjoy Disney Pirate Mayhem like none seen before.

The Most Miserly Mom thinks this is an awesome family event! AARR!
The picture attached is of my husband in traditional Disney pirate fare at Disney Village Marketplace!

Here's the scoop about the price increase:
SeaWorld's prices went up $3 for adults (from $61.95 to $64.95) and $4 for children (from $49.95 to $53.95). Busch Gardens' prices are up $4 for both adults and children, with adult prices going up to $61.95 and child prices up to $51.95. The parks still trail Disney and Universal, whose ticket prices are both $67 for a one-day, one-park pass.

Here's the scoop on discounts:
Sea World has a deal for Florida residents: Pay for one day and get the rest of the year FREE!
It's called the Sea World Fun Card. So, for about $65 adults and $54 kids you can visit the park all year long! Now that's a discount!

Sea World's 2-park unlimited admission tickets are $85 - That's a Great deal too!

They also have other promotions: Be a Kid Again Tickets, The 4-park flex ticket and 5-park flex ticket.

Orlando & Disney Paradise!

The Most Miserly Mom took a trip to the North this weekend, which is why I neglected to write in my blog on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. As we descended into the Orlando International Airport last night my family and I were thrilled to be home!

Our Spirit Airlines flight was packed with people who were ready to explore Disney's Magic Kingdom, Epcot and MGM. Not a single child was crying as we landed in Orlando. Thoughts of Mickey Mouse must have squashed any sadness!

I also met many tourists who had Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure on the top of their list for this vacation because of the great ticket prices, and because their teenagers were dying to experience the roller coasters at Islands of Adventure.

The Most Miserly Mom is happy to be in Orlando again! It truly is a paradise here!
